distill gallery

Distillery District is among my favourite places in Toronto – not only does it house production of a favoured adult beverage, but it offers some fantastic boutiques and little shops that are driven by the quality of their products and how unique they are in nature. I love it.

One such store would be the Distill Gallery, a store that houses works of over 120 emerging Canadian talent (whether it be jewelry, clothing, crafts, or contemporary design). Just being in the store made me feel at home, where everything felt so incredibly unique and organic – unlike the mainstream mass-manufactured pieces that we pick up from day to day.

RSVP if you haven’t already, and keep comin’ round – there’s new stuff in the works.

Thanks much everyone!

Q&A with Naked and Famous Denim

Posted by Gloria Chik on September 16th, 2008 - 7 Comments

Why get naked when you can get Naked and Famous all with a simple pair of well-fitting jeans. They’re making some serious waves with their offering of Japanese imported fabrics, and catching some hefty attention from retailers like Over the Rainbow, and Aritzia, N&F sells based on high quality, raw denim. Who needs bells and whistles when you can just get Naked and feel good. Alright, stop reading into the double entendres and read into my Q&A with Brandon Svarc:

The Perfect Leather Jacket

Posted by Gloria Chik on September 15th, 2008 - 4 Comments

As some of you may know, the recently opened Jonathan + Olivia (49 Ossington Ave) will be carrying the Justice X Surface to Air collection. The collection consists of three leather jackets and two pairs of jeans, with the leather jackets being the highlight. Only a few stores are carrying the line so I’m happy to see that a shop in Toronto was able to get the collection. Though I doubt that any young Justice fan will be rocking these pieces with the leather jackets going for around $1700 and the jeans priced at $325. Now, I’m sure that the cut, fit, quality etc…is great but I just can’t get myself to pay that much.

I’m also not interested in getting a mass-produced jacket from H&M or Zara. Your leather jacket should be (relatively) unique. That’s why I recommend (especially to all the skinny guys out there) to take a look at Black Scissors Tailoring (http://www.blackscissors.com/). Their readymade jackets start at around $300 and you can even place an order for a custom piece if you’d like. I know it’s not cheap, but for a well made slim fitted leather jacket that’ll last you forever, I’d say it’s worth it.

…has launched! Who would have known that one of the most beloved brands from Aritzia has now found a home online. A scattered array of polaroid pictures show promise of some really gorgeous clothing coming up for the fall.

This is definitely my favourite line from Aritzia…too bad I haven’t found anything from them that 9281021 other girls haven’t gotten to before me. In other news, TNA.com has been updated as well for fall.
