Alternative Sweatpants

Posted by Gloria Chik on October 24th, 2008 - 6 Comments

For the longest time I didn’t own a pair of sweatpants. My girlfriend has always bothered me about it because she didn’t get how I could spend an entire day in jeans. It’s true that at times, jeans aren’t the most comfortable trousers but I just never liked typical sweatpants. They’re too baggy and those who know me will confirm that I like things skinny (well, at least fitted).

They also just remind me of jocks or those sloppy students walking around with cuffed sweats shoved in ugg boots (awful). So, I continued wearing my jeans until I discovered the byCORPUS drop crotch sweatpants. I instantly loved these harem style sweats. I would never wear them out on the street (of course) but they’ve made lounging around much more comfortable.

My girlfriend still thinks that I’m a dork for buying them and some people may think that its ridiculous to buy such pants for indoor use but who says that you can’t be stylish in private? I might even step it up a notch and buy these Silver Spoon sweatpants (pictured) that I noticed on the Dejour blog. They don’t get any more stylish than this (just…sweatier).

I’m not blind

Sorry folks that wear glasses – you’ll be shocked to know that I don’t need glasses (though according to my badass optometrist from 5th grade, who conveniently disappeared, I did. Until I got them rechecked 5 years later to find that they weren’t necessary. Thanks!) Regardless, I love fakey frames, and I’m wanting these dorkfest glasses so I can journey to becoming a full-fledged, bonafide hipster.

Holly Readers can be purchased online from urbanoutfitters.com, but I like my heavily-scented-plastic-frames-from-kensingtonmarket ones for five dollars. Where are they?!

Harajuku Lovers Fragrances

Posted by Gloria Chik on October 22nd, 2008 - 9 Comments

If I know you in person you probably already know about these – but Harajuku Fragrances from Gwen Stefani is here! I received a package prior to the release of the perfumes out to stores, and I have to say that at first I placed it into the “teenie bopper” category. It’s actually turned out to have more of a fun flare – I don’t find the scents to be ones that a kiddie could appreciate. Why? There’s a sampling of all varieties – from the light and sweet to the heavier and more sharp smells.

Be not deceived by the adorable nature of the characters – Love, Lil Angel, G, Music, and Baby cater to the roaming yuppies as well. I’m finding them unusually addictive, and now equipped with a plethora of these goodies, I’m able to satisfy my overindulgence of scent products. Included in my set? A Harajuku Lovers makeup bag, drawstring bag, 5 mini fragrances, an abundance of samples, a Harajuku lovers charm bracelet (with cartoon heads – it’s not as scary as it sounds), and postcards for an extra 1500 Shoppers Optimum Points with a Harajuku Lovers perfume purchase (oo, alliteration).

Shoutouts to and from Over the Rainbow

I just noticed that I got a shout out from Over the Rainbow for my Q&A with Naked and Famous Denim, so I’m returning the favour. I love Yorkville Shops by the name of Over the Rainbow!

Here’s what they had to say:

Urbane Bloc is a pop-local fashion blog that reports on all the latest brands & trends coming out of Canada. They recently sat down with Brandon Svarc, the founder of Naked & Famous Denim, to discuss his motivation behind the brand and where it stands in the marketplace. Over the Rainbow is mentioned several times in the interview as being one of the top destinations to purchase Naked & Famous Denim.
