Queen West’s BarreWorks is a fusion exercise system using the ballet barre and is my latest fitness craze. The Barreworks workout blends fitness training, core conditioning, yoga and pilates into a dynamic class. I was really intrigued by this unique concept and I didn’t know what to expect upon arriving besides a new tone-up workout. The studio is an absolutely beautiful space, a trendy rustic loft with lots of soft light, a calm color palette, hardwood floors, exposed brick walls and amazing staff.
I signed up for SpinBarre, a hybrid of spinning that ends with core work and deep stretching at the barre. The instructor, Lina, took us on the most intense interval ride ever which was equivalent to climbing probably a dozen hills with an upbeat playlist that made me want to just dance. She was so enthusiastic and made the class much more fun with her motivating charisma. The energy was crazy and I even got the vigorous adrenaline-boosting cardio I’ve been missing. Then the barre worked my glutes and thighs, which I sure felt in the following days. I left feeling great and it was such a good experience that I’m already excited to return for more classes!
