In honour of us bloc-sters who are currently on vacation (Shanice) or about to go on vacation (Abby and, ahem, me!), we thought it only fitting to compile a list of the best sunscreens to protect your wonderful skin. In truth, sunscreen shouldn’t be a vacation-only purchase. It’s important to apply SPF every day (even in the winter!) and to your face in particular since it’s exposed to UV rays on a daily basis.

SPF Fun Fact: SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, and it provides a rough estimate of how long someone can stay in the sun without burning. For example, an SPF 30 sunscreen will protect someone who burns in 10 minutes by 30 times the additional protection, so roughly 300 minutes. This means you’re assured 300 minutes of sun protection.

Here are our favourite sunscreen picks:

Aveeno Facial Suncreen: This oil-free, non-greasy facial sunscreen contains soy proteins, as well as Vitamins A, C and E. With it’s light moisturizing formula, this sunscreen is a perfect pre-makeup lotion. Fellow Bloc-ster Maria is a huge fan of this one!

Clarins Sunscreen Care Cream: This moisture-rich and easy-to-blend sunscreen is made without parabins, sulphates or synthetic dyes.

Dermalogica Super Sensitive Faceblock: Have sensitive skin? This chemical-free sunscreen is ideal for skin that is irritated by traditional sunscreen ingredients. It also includes lavandar, green tea and licorice to soothe irritation caused by the sun.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock: This sunblock is waterproof, sweatproof and non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores. Light as a feather, this non-oil formula feels like you’re not wearing anything at all!

Coppertone Sport: Abby included this sunscreen in her recent vacation pack list post and it’s so good it deserves extra praise. Coppertone’s formula is ultra sweatproof (for those who like to get active on the beach), waterproof and able to withstand even the most rigorous exercise. Since extreme conditions – like extra hot weather, or intense exercise – can make skin more vulnerable to UV damage, this sunscreen contains added antioxidants to help replenish the skin’s natural defenses
