Blazers – French for let’s wear a bow tie.

Recently I’ve noticed the prevalence of blazers in casual settings, an event that was long overdue. Combinations with funky knits and brightly colored accessories have added personality to what was typically drab wear. However, it is important to stick to subdued patterns and colors for the blazer itself to avoid looking too busy. An excellent example is this nice, simple, 2 button piece from Ralph Lauren:

Skipping the basic combos of blazers with sweaters and tee’s, let’s look at it in combination with what seems to be everywhere now, or should be: bow ties. Now, not everyone can pull this off without being mistaken for Bob Saget but it’s an interesting look to wear. For the faint of heart, starting off with a plain black bow tie will allow you to build up the confidence needed to eventually venture out into stripes and patterns.

Something else that can be tried is one truly funky accessory to add flair to what normally would be a reserved outfit, such as this wacky scarf or in the case of the man on the right, a combination of eclectic colors that just seems to work.

And there you have it, some ideas to get you started. Why settle for drab when you really can have fab? Go out and experiment to your heart’s content.
