Luminato: Flash Mob 2008

Flash Mob 2008

They say never to wear white after Labour Day. I say, abuse this rule while you can, and adorn yourself in that flowing, angelic shade.

And that’s exactly what FASHION Magazine did on one gloriously bright Saturday afternoon. Gathering a flock of all types (models, FASHION Editors, and just plain pretty people), the Flash Mob hit Yonge and Dundas Square Downtown Toronto to create a spectacle. With crisp white lanterns hung from above and a bevy of calm statuesque subjects, the event generated an incredible and artistic presence.

Check out some coverage here and here.

It seems these days great things come in smaller sizes and more compact packages. Through swapping business cards, I received a couple of these teenytiny contact cards (they’re less than half the size of a standard one). I glimpsed moo.com through the Facebook application. The premise of the printing company is to produce high quality, adorable hardstock cards with high customization capabilities and low cost. They even come with leather mini-carrying cases, leading to an even larger gush factor. The only downside is that they remind me of litmus paper from science class for some reason.

I’ve already printed my business cards – but if you haven’t, or if you’re looking for something to put all your gorgeous photos onto to show the world, then check out moo.com. The way you present yourself on card, is complimentary to your fashions – so do it up big (or in this case, really really small).

Whoever Said That Fashion Wasn’t Art…

…clearly hasn’t seen Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2008 Ready-to-Wear collection. My favourite pieces — featured above — were the party dresses with hand painted, contemporary art-inspired designs. As Women’s Wear Daily aptly put it, the collection was “as much an homage to modern art as it was to the duo’s earlier aesthetic.” What I wouldn’t give to put this kind of art my my wall.
