It’s all too incredible to see what unique ideas and visionaries can accomplish. Take Sheena from The Uniform Project, a girl that decided to wear the same little black dress for a year (7 identical dresses to rotate through the week) in order to raise money for children to go to school. A pinch of whimsy, a tad bit of ingenious, and a whole lot of creativity and drive was precedent for some sort of amazing. Watch the video – the whole way through. You’ll be amazed, just a little.

I’ve been really bad – haven’t much been keeping up with the post-coverage of attending events. Awhile ago I had the pleasure of indulging at the Rethink Romp. Like I treat most Halloweens and dress-up parties, I dress not to the nines and end up improvising something crappy. I call it “Breast-Cancer-Benefit-Appropriate”. In any case, Leesa and I ended up hitting up the event with bells on. Card collecting and swag collecting, we did. Can you say Dermalogica products, yellow tail fun, manicures, and good company? Yes, indeed.

It’s all too likely that there’s something such as having too much fun for your own good. Carole and I did just that at the Harley Davidson Garage Party to benefit Rethink Breast Cancer. The event was framed around movie-set-material. Meaning from once you were to step into the Fermenting Cellar at the Distillery District, everything was a checklist from Hair and Makeup to doing the “cover of a magazine” (DOLCE Magazine). It was a night of severe spoiling – goodies, food, hilarious activities (I’d share the videos of us …

It’s been heavy on the Rethink Breast Cancer mention, but worthy of it. Joe Fresh has launched a campaign in support of the cause, a contest where you submit how you wear their signature tee for 10 chances to win a sweet trip to Toronto (well, Fashion Week) and a $500 gift card. Get to snapping. Snap snap.

It’s a decadent Harley Party. The Precious Metal Gala / Garage Party / pinkest Harley-Davidson bash ever, is an event established to benefit Rethink Breast Cancer. It’s also a fun bit to help girls get over the motorcycling barriers (I know I’m not quite over it yet). Some nice verbage:

This ultimate ‘girls’ night out’ will feature a pink carpet, be emceed by Virgin Radio’s Billie Holiday, showcase entertainment from So You Think You Can Dance Canada’s Miles Faber and Toronto’s salsa legend Albert J. Gomez, provide hair and makeup stations …

Hot Docs is North America’s largest documentary film festival, featuring over 170 documentaries from Canada and around the world, to be viewed at venues around Toronto.

Waste Land, directed by acclaimed British director Lucy Walker (Blindsight, Devil’s Playground), premiered at the Isabel Bader Theatre on Day 3 of the festival.

The documentary is an uplifting story about the transformative power of art and the beauty that can be found in even the most worthless garbage.

The story begins as top-selling contemporary artist Vik Muniz decides to return to his home country of Brazil …

I was passed this by Tina from NEDIC (National Eating Disorder Information Centre), and thought it was a fantastic campaign. Much like the Dove Real Beauty Campaign (though not nearly as loaded – this is a non-profit organization that works to inform the public about eating disorder issues). NEDIC is a part of the University Health Network in Toronto.

Created in collaboration with partners Zulu Alpha Kilo (awesome agency – always hearing about them making waves), the rich video below has garnered some fantastic buzz. Watch the video, and get moving …

Valentine’s Day may have come and gone, but the love doesn’t have to end there! Over two dozen like-minded friends in the independent arts community have banded together to create a downloadable collective in support of Haiti. Donations go straight to Médecins Sans Frontières (aka Doctors Without Borders), to help with their work towards the earthquake. Their words:

Featuring a who’s who of award winning artists, the project brings together Juno Award Winners (and losers), U of T Art Professors, Underground Hip Hoppers, Latin Jazzers, Pop and Electronica Darlings, as well as Vanguards of Illustration, Animation and Photography.  It’s an eclectic mix of “creative” types who …
