It’s no surprise that Gossip Girl returns on Monday, September 1, 2008 - I’m ecstatic to see what wardrobes the stylists have rummaged together (nothing like an abundance of designer all on one set). This picture reminds me of the Animorphs. Someone please tell me they remember that show/book series. Anyone? Ooookay.

You know the theme song, you probably don’t know the girls, and you know the idea of bringing back a show from the 90s that ran for 10 seasons proooooobably isn’t the BEST idea.
Regardless CWTV is keen on the remake for the late 2000’s, complete with Shenae Grimes of Degrassi: The Next Generation (I guess it’s a strategy to get someone who’s already done it on another series to…do it again).
Regardless, the NYLON photos look pretty rad. Shenae Grimes, AnnaLynne McCord and Jessica Stroup (who?) pose for this month’s issue …

Toronto upped their street fashion game in the heart of downtown - after visiting the Toronto Stussy store on Richmond Street, I was blindsided by the collaboration of Stussy and Neighborhood. The LA and Tokyo fashion brands teamed together to create a limited line of t-shirts, button up shirts, jeans, hats, accessories and even a shoe set with Nike.
Graphics used on the clothing take on the skater vibe of Stussy and the punk/biker vibe from Neighborhood. Group 1 items were released in June, Group 2 items in July and the …

A little while ago Smart Set launched a campaign leveraging the social epicentre of Facebook and interactive media (check fashionatplay.ca if you haven’t already). There you’ll find some pretty infectious music and addictive spin-cubes to appease your clothes-matching desires. A great initiative that they started for lucky bloggers (including myself) was to allow them to shop at Smart Set, on them. Seeing as I already sporadically pick up some work-goodies there, I decided to take them up on the offer.
The program would initiate with me sending an item of clothing …

Our beloved Torontonian Ed Mirvish passed away not too long ago, but he leaves a great legacy. Not Mirvish Productions you fool, HONEST ED’S! I can still recall my sporadic trips downtown to visit the grand Bargain Harold’s style retailer. I honestly think there wasn’t another place in Toronto that sold $2.00 ill-fitting floral patterned shorts.
So, what’s the big scoop here that I’m about to divulge? The fact that I just found out Honest Ed’s is having a 60th anniversary, and there is a “ready-to-wear” fashion show involved. Take a …

It’s not everyday you see two brands on opposite ends of the fashion spectrum come together. On one hand you have LV the king of monograms and commercialized fashion and on the other, Comme des Garcons the quirky, low-key, avant-garde label working together to create a historic line of women’s hand bags to commemorate LV’s 30th anniversary in Japan.
“In designing them, I have kept Louis Vuitton’s traditional concept as it is, but sometimes two handles become one, sometimes two handles become eight…” - Rei Kawakubo, Creative Director of CDG …

Yes, I stepped into Coach and walked out with something (screams and squeals) - but not only did I finally manage to purchase something from there, but I had a key learning from today. Did anyone know where these “Coach Beauty” products sprung up from? A collection complete with purse spray, lip glosses, solid perfume, lotion, and shimmer powder, Coach has found a new way to extend its brand into the lives of young women.
Are you having it or not having it?

For some reason all of the summer sales have hit retailers early this year - I don’t recall having sales until mid summer (end of July-ish). I’m not going to attempt to attribute this to an economic factor (though I’d speculate it would have to do with consumer confidence and attempts to salvage diminishing profits for the year, but uhm, you didn’t hear that from me).
Sales are virtually everywhere (and with great agitation and frustration I will share them with you). Why do I hate sales? Because I’m a person …

Interesting stuff - Aldo has recently started up a blog portion on their website (go Web 2.0, your ways are all-encompassing). Most companies tend to just stick with a press section, but Aldo went a step above and created a platform to relate to their youth / yuppie audience. Strange thing is that most of the stuff on the blog is shameless promotion, product plugs, and a complete overabundance of corporate self-indulgence.
Thanks but no thanks Aldo - try coolhunting shoe polish or something next time.

The big, heavy-weight fashion retail news as of late is that TopShop is finally opening up in the U.S., supplying New Yorkers with first dibs on the latest and greatest in European clothing.
Looks like the brand is going to be mighty mighty busy, as they’ll be opening up shop in October, alongside a U.S. website launch with most clothing pieces under $100.
I happen to love Brits when it comes to fashion, but my question is - will they pay heed to the needs of the Great North and cater to …
