Fashion + Canadian Indie Music = $$?

In its attempt to better “connect with its Canadian customers” (according to Marketing Magazine), French Connection recently launched a new in-store music initiative. Four Canadian indie bands (Magneta Lane, The Coast, Oil Can Boyd and Everlea — nope, haven’t heard of any) will be played on repeat at five Toronto branches for the next two months. For anyone who has been in French Connection, most of you know that it takes a very distinctive personality to pull off the majority of their clothes (ignoring the irritating FCUK line of course). Will putting indie music on repeat change the fact that so much of their (women’s) clothing is unwearable? I’m going to go with, no… but at the very least, you’ll at least be introduced to a few new bands. And of course, CDs will be available in store.

Just another way for companies to rake in money - too bad this plan doesn’t seem that creative or interesting. FOUR bands? Won’t we get sick of it fast?
