Fashion Takes Action Launch Party

My my this Earth Day business sure is getting mucho buzz. Rightfully so – it’s a great cause and Fashion never fails to take a stand. Fashion Takes Action is a members-based social enterprise whose mission is to impact the fashion industry in a socially and environmentally positive way. Best way to launch is April 22, day of Earth. Led by Kelly Drennan, FTA is sure to harness some great awareness around Fashion and sustainability (my favourite word of the last two years).

Looks like it’ll be a great event – best of luck FTA!

For more details on the event check after the jumpy.

This coming Earth Day, April 22nd, Fashion Takes Action <http://www.fashiontakesaction.com>  (FTA) will launch as the first members based organization in Canada, whose mission is to have a socially and environmentally positive impact on the fashion industry. FTA is currently known for producing Canada’s greenest fashion events, The Green Gala and the Sustainable Style Show. FTA members include fashion designers, retailers, manufacturers, stylists, media, researchers, distributors and event producers — essentially anyone who works in fashion and wants to learn more about becoming sustainable. At the time of launch FTA will have 50 members, with the goal to bring in another 200 before the end of 2009. For nearly three years, FTA founder Kelly Drennan has created alliances with several local and global organizations in both the fashion and environmental sectors. The support for FTA has been tremendous, and the need for an organization to provide these tools and resources, is obvious. To celebrate the launch, FTA is throwing an Earth Day party on Friday April 24th at the Burroughes Building (639 Queen St West). This fundraiser event is in partnership with Earth Day Canada <http://www.earthday.ca> , who will receive a portion of the proceeds. The first 100 tickets are being sold for just $30, and after that will go to $40. Some tickets will be sold at the door for $50 (cash only). Tickets include an open bar (eco friendly beverages), and a line-up of popular DJs with Brendan Canning from Broken Social Scene along with Dirty Dale, Andy Capp and Dali. In addition, 10 Ryerson fashion students are pairing up to participate in a live eco designer challenge where they will each design a garment from packaging and waste. As part of the launch, FTA is revamping their website and unveiling a completely new logo. One of the dresses made at the event will be designed using the new FTA logo, printed on tree free paper. > Source: FTA Press Release
