On an early summer evening this past week, I was invited to the home of Dr. Sandy Skotnicki for the celebration of her new skincare line FormulaB. FormulaB she tells me is pronounced formula-B (B being for Brandon, her eldest son). The hostess, Dr. Sandy is a vision in a salmon Roland Mouret dress as she beams passionately about her project. This Canadian skincare line is the love-child of her background in allergy testing and her desire to find herself a product that wasn’t irritating to her skin. Being a dermatologist, Sandy then saw a “pain” (as my former business prof would say) in her market, when she noticed that many of her acne patients were experiencing irritations while using acne products.

The lovely thing about this product, is that it is very transparent in its motives, and in this day and age that is very rare. Every ingredient within your tube or bottle of FormulaB has a purpose, and it’s purpose is listed right there in the packaging. Refreshing.

The party itself was also refreshing, as well as charming. Taking place in her garden, it was littered with some of Toronto’s freshest and most beautiful faces. Very friendly waiters passed around lobster grilled cheese, risotto cakes, spring rolls and s’more tarts. Nothing was too fussy, and everything seemed rather organic and relaxed. It was a great evening overall, and as I walked out of her home, and out of her tree-lined Forrest-Hill neighborhood, I was convinced. So convinced, that I would try it that night.
