HD Radio, anyone?

While I haven’t yet convinced myself to jump on the bandwagon for HD TV as I’m sure the majority of the male population has, I can convince myself that music is worth it. I’ll admit to being a new formed car-and-home music addict, so much so that I won’t let the wheels turn until there’s something blasting through the speakers that’s drive-worthy. In comes HD Radio.

Raise your hands if you still listen to radio in the car – because there’s one flailing in the air right now on my end. Though I find the inconsistent quality of radio stations a deterrent for listening, in waltzes HD Radio. While it’s only available in the states, it might make for some good buzz here as competition to our satellite radio. And I’m in desperate, DESPERATE need of new music.

1,800 broadcasting stations as well as over 900 new local FM HD2 and HD3 channels. HD Radio calls for an upgrade to your hardware (much like HD TV), a pleasant excuse to splurge on something good to blast my tunes from. And if it’s for your uhm “whip” as they call it, then it’s a grand transition from having to fiddle with the tuner when you’re on a road trip. No hissing or distorting (yay!)

More and more bands and “next big things” are being discovered on new local radio channels and niche radio, HD2/HD3 seems to be the way to go for coolhunting (yeah, I used the word, and enjoyed it). The sweetness also is that you don’t have a subscription fee for new radio programming.

Anyone down for some fine tuning?
