H&M x Jimmy Choo = Girls Punching Other Girls
“Jimmy Choo shoes are like crack for women” – Will Lam
Summed up just about right – Lenmeister asked me why I didn’t post about the capsule collection that Jimmy Choo did for H&M (released November 14th), and it’s basically because I don’t condone sleeping on the streets for a pair of shoes. That and the collection looked like a bit of painful patent and wasn’t particularly covet worthy on my end. Though admittedly, I did end up accidentally picking up the Jimmy Choo Jumpsuit (I tweeted romper – wild slip of the fingers, apologies) that Paris Hilton sported (I suppose that’s foreshadowing of the fact that only tall people can pull it off without looking like you’re drowning in it. Though I wish sometimes I wasn’t so freakishly tall, but I digress).
I also had the opportunity to grab the light grey suede one shouldered dress, but deemed it too overpriced ($299. ouch), and figured I’d never have a chance to wear it. When checking out, I asked the girl at the counter how the morning went. “It was wild, a girl punched another girl out”. Classy?
The collection includes many a sequin, black, electric blue, grey, loads of zebra, and fiery red. Key materials include buttery leather, suede, and well, plastic. Much of it was quite expensive, but regardless, managed to sell out (though I did jump onto Craigslist and notice huge markups. High fives – Jimmy Choo hawked off like scalpers would).
Your thoughts?

Honestly? It actually wasn’t TOO rowdy. I was #1 in line at the Toronto Eaton Centre one. Most of the rowdiness were from feisty girls further back in the line. Those who made it early were very calm and confident….no plans to punch anyone out or anything. The interviews of those who are like “I’ll push down the scrawny girls” are from those who had line position envy. lol. Which is of course the kind of interviews the media wants to publish.
The H&M staff in my opinion did SUCH a great job at keeping as controlled as possible (apparently compared to other H&M collabs)
The H&M staff never get dibs on designer collabs…so I met a few of them who took the day off work to line up. They were very helpful in giving us tips.
Would I do it again? It depends who the collab is with.
I had a great time actually met so many great people…it was quite the first experience. Amazing company and a positive and calm attitude made the experience fun.
Hey Carolyn – thanks so much for sharing your experience, really valuable to hear it first hand from someone who was in the trenches ;) I can’t wait to see what you picked up!
I think this collab was a huge promo opp – the amount of signage and branding is unbelievable.
And that’s really amazing to hear H&M staff actually taking the time to line up. Sucks a little bit that they don’t get preferential treatment though
I picked up every accessory in the line (shoes, jewelery, handbags: minus 1 pair of shoes and 1 handbag) and most of the womens garments.

If I put the effort in to being 1st in line, I’m going to make sure I get (almost) every piece. My plan with them? Keep a few and sell a few :) because you’re right some pieces are just not my style…BUT I know there are people out there who want their hands on A Jimmy Choo limited edition H&M piece.
I just saw the first media piece of me..nooooo :( no sleeping doesn’t exactly give you the nicest glow. hahaha so I tried to be as BORING, short, and calm as I could in interviews so that they wouldn’t use my footage…but obviously, I understand that people want to know what time the #1 in line started lining up and etc.
It’s funny because many didn’t know about past H&M collabs.
Probably a combination of marketing efforts and the level of “mainstream-ity” of the designer label.
First in line – love it! I think it’s almost a novelty of being able to basically have a piece of what would otherwise be inaccessible. Let me know what you have for sale, I want a look see ;) I’m definitely coveting the leather one-shoulder dress, hotness!
How many pieces in total were there, and how did you manage to carry them all lol!
Might this also be a tactic to up the shoes at H&M? I don’t find that their footwear gets a lot of attention typically
Gloria,
I’m really sorry about punching you.
