I Was There When They Released Macbook Air.

Macbook Air

I didn’t just say that for the sake of demonstrating my rap-star abilities. And I was there for the release…if you count sitting in class refreshing the Apple website frantically waiting for the images of Macbook Air to be released on their website.

In case you’ve been oblivious to everyone’s MSN names and to every news source online, the Macbook Air laptop was released Tuesday, January 15, 2008. The laptop has been introduced as the world’s thinnest laptop with unmatched functionality and innovation. It’s fresh, it’s thin, it’s gorgeous, and it’s so expensive that it’s appalling. Starting at $1899 CAD, you can pre-order your own overpriced air. The root of my bitterness? The fact that after receiving my Macbook, Leopard OS X and Macbook Air both came out, making my time of purchase the exact time that my computer would become outdated.

I almost wish they’d stop inventing new technology and would just start making some more attractive laptop cases.

yup, I think it looks really sexy too…I’m thinking of getting one myself. My only concern is that as thin and gorgeous as it looks, it also looks really breakable…which from a business perspective may not be all bad for Apple if Macbook Air’s sexiness entices even some people to buy replacements…you know…$1899 X 2…
    I think I’ll wait a bit =P

Oh gosh! It’s so expensive I don’t know when I’d ever be willing to spend that much on a computer – you could get so many other things! 1900 could get you three computers even if you think about it :S Is the style worth it?

oh totally worth it :D But you’re also right…1900 can get you so many other things (read: clothes). In the meantime, I think you should try to enjoy your Macbook =P I think the price of Macbook Air will come down over time anyways. But by then, Apple may have designed something better…you know, something lighter than Air :S

  • I don’t think the Macbook Air is meant to replace the Macbook though… =) It’s a whole new line altogether, and is for a different audience, in my opinion.

It’s pretty sexy no doubt, but I don’t think it’s as practical as a Macbook right now. No DVD drive? I don’t think so. (yea yea, you can get that external thing, but the point of such a light-weight laptop is its portability)

ryan: well I guess if you have 1900 sitting around you might as well splurge (: my macbook is still good to me, and I still obsess over cleaning it with a glasses-cloth and my breath. it’s a twisted habit that will never end! clothes can be justified when overpriced sometimes, but technology? not too sure!

charing: so good to hear from you! I hope you’re doing well – I took a look at your site and saw that you’re in england now! how extremely exciting! tell me everything (:

I didn’t realize that it didn’t have a dvd drive! I guess not being a computer major I didn’t really look into the specs, but just the glossy-looking photos (cackles)

hope to hear from you folks soon :)

  • As an Apple shareholder, I’m concerned and with how well this piece of junk will hold up. I think the biggest concern is not the fact that it is expensive, or that it is wafer thin, but that the battery isn’t replaceable.

Like the ipods that have batteries that last only through the length of it’s warranty. Apple knows that once the battery is dead, you’ll toss it out and replace with it’s newer and better. This goes without saying for the Air.

What good is a laptop if the battery is irreplaceable and non functional?

When the market corrects itself I am jumping ship.
