Bustle S/S 2010

Bustlin’ flow would be the right way to describe the Bustle Clothing show. I remember stepping foot into the room and being absurdly quizzical about what was going on. There was comfortable furniture strategically placed about, and a cart of drinks to paint out a casual setting for a runway show.

I have to give Bustle the utmost credit for having an entertaining segment. Attitude. Cute boys and girls. And the highlight? Most clearly it was Stacey Mckenzie, Ms. Toronto Fashion Runway Diva extraordinaire herself, strutting her stuff in a Bustle bikini and sweater, serving Caesars to fashion elite (including Jeanne Becker). You’ll have to see it to believe (and see it here).

As for the clothes? Admittedly, Gem and I weren’t the biggest fans. Much of it reminded me of American Apparel or typical retail mass merchant stores. Loved the creativity though, and the casual menswear wasn’t half bad.

Oooh, I love Stacey Mckenzie! I read about her once in one of those free, Verve issues (I didn’t know that project was started by UT students!) and she talked about her growing-up, struggles with the definition of beauty, how she overcame them, and how she uses her position to help inspire other young girls to overcome their low self-esteems. It was really great even though the article was short. :( I think it’s awesome that someone as passionate as she is is contributing to the fashion industry in big ways!
