From when the first model emerged onto the runway with zippered leather leggings and colourful wayfareresque (I like to call ‘em unwayfarers…because they…aren’t) glasses, it was apparent that Ula Zukowska was aware of commercial and cult trends. A skim through her bio leaves me impressed – only 6 years into the game within Toronto Fashion, Ula designs for her own label Ula2, a company rapidly approaching $1 million in sales a year.
Ula Zukowska S/S 2010 lends a boho-plentiful look to each piece. Tones were mostly neutral (with several pieces integration gradient). Much of it was metaphorical, with images of children printed on front of several dresses. It was pretty peculiar to see the same dress come out one after another with different prints. A sign of filler, or incremental importance?
