I love the look of fur. My apologies to anyone not on my side but I eat meat and wear leather so I’d be quite the hypocrite if I claimed to be completely “down for the cause”. I have to admit though, it takes a certain something to do it correctly and not look like I’m playing dress up (like putting on a boa or tiara to go grocery shopping).
That being said, I’ve got a soft spot for Headmistress Fur & Feathers. A little bit of kitsch mixed with a dash of contemporary elegance. How often do you see a muff-clutch?! You can stop raiding your great-aunt’s closet now and go get your own.
Now, as you must remember from 4th grade history class, our country’s history is rooted in hunting and the fur trade, so this is no trend. What was once used simply for warmth and bartering, is making fashion statements from right here in Toronto with odes to Canadiana all over the place. There’s the Deer Lake Fur Headband, the Turtle River Feather Bib, the Moose River Clip; almost makes you want to take a road trip to witness the beauty of these places up close. Oh, and the best part, the Winter 2010 collection includes vintage re-purposed fur, so no li’l critters were hurt in the making of these pieces.
All of the collections have something for every girl to fall in love with. Take your pick from Vintage Fur, Feathers, and Bridal with an abundance of headbands, brooches, and Native Indian inspired headpieces to “Gossip Girl-up” your look.
P.S. The Anchor Point Double Ring…LOVE! I’ve been looking for a statement multi-finger ring for a while. I may have just found the fanciest faux brass knuckles ever.
