Soia & Kyo Winter 2009
It’s not getting any warmer outside. On the upside, the cold weather creates the perfect excuse to start shopping around for some new outerwear. If you’re looking for something different this year (I’m personally looking to retire the ol’ black peacoat), check out Soia & Kyo for its collection of warm wear that’s been cast as “young, trendy and urban with a retro twist”.
Oversized buttons, big collars, and wide belts – these jackets are all about the details. Key designer Ilan Elfassy uses Canadian & European fabrics to create a distinctive style, and knows exactly how to give the classics a smidge more personality and edge. My pick goes to Cali in Espresso – a long wool coat with asymmetrical buttoned flap detailing at the front, patched pockets and belted cuffs. Super trendy, yet still sophisticated enough for work. Not so hot about peacoats this year? That’s fine too, since this year’s collection also features avariety of down and leather jackets with details and designs that are consistent with the brand’s unique style.
Price points for the jackets range from $200 – $495. While head-office is in Montreal, Soia & Kyo can be found in specialty boutiques all across Canada (aka only the stores that are with it). Take a look for yourself and start shopping at www.soiakyo.com.

Winners had a fairly impressive selection of last season Soia & Kyo about a month ago – not sure if anything left now but they were priced around $189. Just love this brand – so cute!
