#BeYourOwnT and @GapCA

Had fun this week – one of the highlights being the event that was put on by GAP x She Does The City – Be Your Own T. The highlight? Seeing that we were able to get onto a Time’s Square billboard (how monumental since I was just in NYC) by tweeting our photos tagged with #BeYourOwnT on Twitter. See more about the event here. More fresh posts coming soon – sorry about the lack of EVERYTHING lately, it’s been an insane ride.

It’s just around the corner…it’s not a bird, it’s not a plane…it’s an occasion. And we’re here to help.

Where did you get that dress? Garage Clothing!

Posted by Abby on February 22nd, 2012 - 3 Comments

You will never guess where I got my new favourite summer dress. Garage Clothing! I know what you all are thinking urbanebloc fashionistas, but you will be pleasantly surprised by all the wonderful basics and great prices. YAY!

As I mentioned in an earlier article I’m going away on vacay, DOUBLE YAY!! (and double exclamation points!!). I noticed this awesome dark turqouise aztec patterned dress in the display and just had to have it. Plus it’ll go perfectly with funky neon beach accessories, sandals, and a fedora hat.

Also on my way outta the shop, I picked up a few simple white tank tops, a girl can never have too many of those. Great fit, stretchy material- think Gap meets American Apparel. I’ll be sure to stop by again when I need more tees and tanks.

So that’s all for now folks. Ciao!

GAP Summer 2011 Collection

I always look to GAP for fashion basics aside from that Canadian grocery-store clothing line. (Let’s face it, the retailer comes out with a colourful array of cotton T-shirts and tanks that fit relatively true to size every year). You simply can’t go wrong with Gap if you’re looking for that bit of casualness without being viewed as a borderline soccer mom. This year, it is no exception. But what caught my eyes from their summer 2011 lookbook was the tinge of chic in some of the outfits that could carry me from sweets at a coffee shop to an epic dinner at a fancy restaurant.

Sign me up for the sheer loose-fitting shirts tucked gently into slim crop pants or tailored shorts. The neutral tones presented in my favourite outfits are completely opposite of the colour blocking trend of the season. That’s more than okay in my book. It can be very refreshing when there’s one less person dressing like they’re trying out for a haute couture photoshoot.

What’s my other favourite outfit? Denim on demin paired with the elastic strap espadrilles that look to have a little bit of denim as well. Triple denim? Oh, you bet! What’s more Canadian than that?

Gap Spring/Summer 2011 Collection Lookbook

Posted by Gloria on March 29th, 2011 - Leave a Comment

When many other retailers are bursting with colour during this time of year, the Gap is defying the standard by coming out with a Spring/Summer collection for 2011 that they’re calling ”the perfect balance between understated and undone”. Having not been inside of a Gap store in a while, I must say that I was impressed with what this season’s lookbook had to offer.

While some of the pieces like the plain collared shirts, knitted tanks and stone relaxed cropped pants, stay true to the Gap’s traditional designs, others have been subtly updated with a more stylish look - shorts are rolled up, jeans are wide legged and high waisted, and shirts are complemented with oversized pockets. The clothes are loose fitted, and the colours definitely scream understated from pale shades, to creams and blush, to lots of whites. For a girl like me, who likes her clothing uncomplicated with simple designs in soft colours, this is the kind of stuff I gravitate to. My faves include the blush slouchy cuffed pants, blush draped jacket, white wide leg pleat front pants and white shift dress with key hole back detail.

My final verdict? Gap’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection has plenty of  outfits perfect for the more casual workplace (you might just need to remember to stay away from that bowl of spaghetti during your lunch break because anything white, plus messy food, never equal a good thing).
