Spec-tacular

Posted by Shanice on October 4th, 2011 - Leave a Comment

Whether you’re blind as a bat (like me) or enjoy the occasional faux geek look,  eyeglasses have always been a quick way to update your face. Until now, Torontonians were stuck with a selection of traditional looking rims and everyone’s face looked… well boring. Enter Cutler and Gross, the Aston Martin of eye wear. They’ve been around for over 40 years in England and you’ve seen them before on the faces of Elton John and Lady Gaga.

Their first location in Canada has opened in Yorkville and boasts the usual luxuriously designed, handmade and sometimes vintage wares. Rejoice Canada, now we too can have an un-boring faces!

Just because it’s the talk of the town.

You and Me could write a Bad Romance

Even if you’ve seen it already, I’m in the business of sharing, so I’m going to share Lady GaGa’s new single (video), BAD ROMANCE. Little repetitive, little overwhelming with the beat and rolling r’s, but does the trick.

I’ve been thinking back fondly and reflectively of the last year. One of the shiniest highlights would have to be my interview with GaGa. Miss her normalcy (but normal people don’t always change the world – crazy people tend to).

Down with the bad romances, up with the dramatic-videos-songs-and-people.

The White Tie Affair – Interview with Chris Wallace

The White Tie Affair

The White Tie Affair - I dub them the kings of summer driving music, because it’s so damn adorable to ride around to their tunes. They’ve got a Californian aura about them, yet they raise from Chicago (aka Chi-town). Recognize the name at all? TWTA’s been featured on The Hills, and they’re currently on tour with Lady GaGa. Oh, and they introduced themselves with a raunchy music video for starters (Allow Me to Introduce Myself…Mr. Right).

I got a little opportunity to chat with Chris Wallace (front man, man of the front) while they were in Kitchener playing a gig. Listen below and let me know what you think. PS. I’m not letting you guys cheat this time by reading the interview, you’re going to have to listen to the 15minute wonder (and listen to my trippy high voice).

> Check out their album Walk This Way in stores nownownow (yeah, not going to lie I’ve been looping some key tracks).

For more on The White Tie Affair, check their website and myspace. Oh yes, and they’re totally on twitter too.

15 Minutes with Lady GaGa

She’s the infectious voice of “Just Dance” (dadadoodoo), has the most distinctive style around, is blowing up on music charts internationally, and she’s also an ’86 baby. Though Lady GaGa is signed to Konvict Music, her early beginnings raised from the underground New York club scene, performing with “shock art” donning hot pants and bikini tops, and lighting cans of hairspray on fire.

If you look past the exhibitionist front, you’ll realize that Lady GaGa is a fierce talent with a sharp tongue and an even sharper attitude.

If you only know her as “that-girl-that-sings-that-song” – that’s about to change. Lady GaGa’s first album is coming out on October 28th, 2008, and is so incredibly electro-dance-infused you’ll feel a surge of energy and renewed feel-happiness

What’s Lady GaGa really like as a person to chat with? Entertaining to say the least – she’s not only a fun-loving and engaging conversationalist, but she’s got great instinct and depth. Plus, she received my silly questions and pipsqueak voice well. Thanks!
