In case you had any interest in seeing the line – here ye here ye! You’ll likely be able to spot me not looking like myself. The hair was a bit wild in that they had done two different looks in the timeframe of one because of a snafoo. Turned out to be a great experience though! Thanks again to Cristina and Michelle for the experience – big winks.
I met Cristina Sabaiduc through the v.amazing Michelle Reagan (@MichelleEReagan on Twitter). After a candid mention that I had missed the FAT casting call for models, it came about that Romadin was looking for some girls to walk and show off the amazing art-to-wear clothing. Having just been at Mass Exodus two weeks ago, I was eager for an up close with pieces from the graduating class. Romandin is a combination of Romance and Industrial elements. The line is a gorgeous mix of hand-detailed wearable art (with materials like caulking and chicken wire to recycled cloth scraps from Cristina’s past fashion ventures).
Toronto Alternative Fashion Week has opened up for viewers and fans – Romandin is showing on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 10:30pm. The invitation (with squinty text) is below – get your tickets to watching wearable art sashay down the runway, and me trying not to try amidst all the cameras and fashion folks’ presence. This’ll be an experience! Thanks so much to Cristina and Michelle for letting me take part in the showing, xo, Toronto!
Tis that time of year again – FAT (Toronto Alternative Fashion Week) is near here. This time it’s all made with love, and inclusive of all art forms as per usual (photography, music, installation, performance, video…et plus). The themes are LONGING, LUST, RAGE, JOY, and MARKET (well, a market on the last day) for each day of the week. It promises to be a grand event held at LIBERTY VILLAGE STUDIO CITY.

Come and get fat.
Feeling for a little modelling? FAT (or F.A.T. rather) is looking for models. In a quest to search for the city’s finest walkers, FAT produces some genuinely unique shows / installations / performances yearly around the same time as the official Toronto Fashion Week in the Spring. Here’s a few words:
|FAT| prides itself on its progressive and unconventional approach to beauty by encouraging diversity on the catwalk and showcasing models who are true representations of the men and women in our city. While spunk and a killer walk are still necessary requirements, |FAT| encourages models who can engage the public and inject their personalities into the clothing.
2010 marks the fifth anniversary of Toronto Alternative Arts and Fashion Week and with this year’s theme titled, “Made With Love”, the focus is on the output of the designer’s hearts and souls.
“If the runway is a body, models are the blood pumping through the veins of the garments,” says Vanja Vasic, executive director of |FAT|. “They are the heartbeat, the central powerhouse. They bring life, spirit and soul to the clothing.”
This year, models will work it on the runway for four action-packed, emotionally charged nights from April 21-24.
Want in? Show up at 148 Augusta Avenue – Kensington Market on March 20 from 12:00pm – 6:00pm (that’s this Saturday!) Get yourself FAT.
It’s that time of the year again! Time to submit if you’d like to be showcased at Toronto Alternative Fashion Week. Happens once a year in the springtime, FAT is a great production that puts local talent on display. The interesting thing about the event is how it ventures out into the non-traditional fashion show, but rather, is a massive array of music, installation, video, photography, and generally alternative fashion art forms. I love it because it truly opens your eyes to the non-traditional wares. Pieces that thrust you straight out of your comfort zone and commercial styling, to genuine fashion arts.
The deadline to submit is December 22, 2009. Get crackin’!
