#WMCFW Rudsak F/W 2012

Fur and leather are the quintessential sexy fabrics, but when it comes to outerwear, there’s always been a bit of a disconnect. Rudsak however, nails it every time. The usual clean utilitarian looks strolled out on the backs of the male models, and form fitting sexy silhouettes hugged the curves of the female models.

It was the fur however (oh the fur!!), that made me drool. Being Canadian, it seems more so than in past years that Canada has become the king of winter wear and fur trimmed hoods, but no one does it with quite the sophistication of Rudsak.

I was lucky enough to be invited backstage to speak with Evik Asatoorian and ask him a few questions, and just like his line, he was so very charming in a sexy and polished way.

Ezra Constantine – F/W 2012

So I guess there is such a thing as being too fashionably late as I was for the Ezra Constantine show last night at the tents.

It’s too bad because I was really looking forward to what Greta’s brother had in store. I love a good menswear show, and Ezra Constantine is entertaining to say the least.

To compensate, here are some shots courtesy of Toronto Life.

Vawk & Vawkkin

Yesterday afternoon, I attended Sunny Fong’s Vawk F/W show in the tents of Toronto’s World Master Card Fashion Week. As one of the main darlings of the Toronto fashion industry, it was well attended for an afternoon show. Out strutted futuristic glamazons donning skull caps with tufts of hair poking precariously through the top. The pieces were peek-a-boo sexiness mixed with the clean lines we’ve come to expect from the designer. What really got the crowds attention however was a 2 minute video that explained Sunny’s working style and the introduction of a sister line called Vawkkin.

Vawkkin is meant to be a more accessible extension of his already successful line, and as Sunny himself put it, it’s “the same DNA, but a different woman”. The clothes were tasteful, modest and while well made, they were kinda boring. Ok, really boring. Hopefully next season Vawk’s little sister can step it up a bit to match the sexiness of it’s already established counterpart.

Matis Makes Magic – Nature’s Art in Symmetry Kicks Off World MasterCard Fashion Week F/W 2012

Lucian has done it again! The Project Runway Canada alum has once again created a beautiful collection for World MasterCard Fashion Week here in Toronto.

Accused of sometimes going a bit over the top with his designs, Matis used nature as his muse this time around, finding inspiration in everything from butterfly wings, to rock formations, to the natural curvature of the earth.

The lines in nature can travel, swirl and conjoin. These natural patterns are nature’s expression and purpose,” explains Matis, “My designs have adapted and evolved through colours and shapes; the grace in movement which this planet and nature must play out from minute to minute, birth to death, and most importantly, the beauty in attraction.”

Defined lines, intricate patterns, and everyone’s favourite – feathers, made up the assortment of very sexy, very wearable pieces.  Of course, there was also that air of sophistication and opulence that make a Lucian Matis show what it is.

The Fairmont Royal York Hotel was a beautiful choice for the show (off-sites are always so much fun) and some famous faces were in attendance including singer Kreesha Turner, Gabrielle Miller from Corner Gas, and MTV Canada’s Aliya-Jasmine.

See some snaps of them and of the collection I took using my handy-dandy loaner from Olympus Canada below.

#WMCFW – Day One

Good times good times, thanks for having me Holt Renfrew. Snaps from the collective were made in a flurry (and may reflect so). Notable items are the Maybelline Colour tattoo (I’m a fan of the cream-to-powder), the Barbie display, and Line knitwear (yup, I’m jumping all over the place).

Cheers, happy day 1.
