Frozen Yogurt has always been one of my fave snacks, so the idea of being able to customize it is seriously the cherry on top! Self-serve Fro Yo is all the rage lately so I decided to check it out….several times.

Matis Makes Magic – Nature’s Art in Symmetry Kicks Off World MasterCard Fashion Week F/W 2012

Lucian has done it again! The Project Runway Canada alum has once again created a beautiful collection for World MasterCard Fashion Week here in Toronto.

Accused of sometimes going a bit over the top with his designs, Matis used nature as his muse this time around, finding inspiration in everything from butterfly wings, to rock formations, to the natural curvature of the earth.

The lines in nature can travel, swirl and conjoin. These natural patterns are nature’s expression and purpose,” explains Matis, “My designs have adapted and evolved through colours and shapes; the grace in movement which this planet and nature must play out from minute to minute, birth to death, and most importantly, the beauty in attraction.”

Defined lines, intricate patterns, and everyone’s favourite – feathers, made up the assortment of very sexy, very wearable pieces.  Of course, there was also that air of sophistication and opulence that make a Lucian Matis show what it is.

The Fairmont Royal York Hotel was a beautiful choice for the show (off-sites are always so much fun) and some famous faces were in attendance including singer Kreesha Turner, Gabrielle Miller from Corner Gas, and MTV Canada’s Aliya-Jasmine.

See some snaps of them and of the collection I took using my handy-dandy loaner from Olympus Canada below.

The Art of Re Use – Interim Pop-Up Recap @theartofreuse

Posted by Josette on February 19th, 2012 - Leave a Comment

On Sunday Gloria, myself, and a few of our closest friends made our way to the Art of Re Use Interim pop-up boutique to take in the goods from the collective’s first ever women’s shop.  To sum up the day: it was beyond worth the trip to King St.

I spent a TOTAL (yes total) of $65 on a beautiful, sheer, rusted-orange skirt, a raffia clutch, and a multi-coloured bolero-esque sweater that are now amongst the favourite items in my closet.  A friend of mine bought a blouse, a dress, and a travel bag; another, a dress and blouse; another, a striped, terry-cloth dress and floral harem pants for his girlfriend. I’m sure you get the idea. It was quite the shopping day.

If you can’t already tell, I am a huge fan of the Art of Re Use. Next stop: San Francisco to take over the art of the pop-up in a few months.

Really looking forward to what they come with next, and of course, the next Interim here at home.

Interim Women’s Thrift Boutique by The Art of Reuse February 19th

Posted by Josette on February 18th, 2012 - Leave a Comment

I cannot tell you how excited I am for this Sunday.

February 19th marks the return of Interim, by The Art of Reuse, and the first women’s pop-up ever from the Toronto collective.

Interim is a contemporary thrift boutique described as “ a Mecca of handpicked-one-of-a-kind goods with an upscale approach that emphasizes frugal principals” (whew).  There’ll be no scrounging through musty sweaters and old shoes the way you may at stores where the garments are thrown together. Instead, the collection is curated to give the clothes, the accessories, and of course, brand the respect they all deserve.  There are  timeless, quality goods here above all else.

Because of the amazingness of the collection, shoppers are limited to just 3 items, so it’s a good idea to bring a friend or two with you; although I was advised to maybe not tell too many people about this gem – one of their past pop-ups sold out in just 15 minutes!

Oh, I didn’t mention that nothing is priced over $50. Yes. That’s right.

The Interim pop-up boutique will be  this Sunday, February 19th at 545 King St. West at noon with just 200 pieces that’ll be perfect to start off your spring wardrobe with.

I advise to arrive early.

Here’s a sneak-peak of what you may find and a musical treat from Toronto DJ Lissa Monet.

INTERMIX Resort Collection

Posted by Shanice on January 20th, 2012 - Leave a Comment

The snow is finally falling in Toronto, and ever the optimist, my sights are set on warmer destinations.

As I close my eyes to daydream, I envision yachts sitting in crystal clear water at the base of a lush green mountain sprinkled with colourful homes. When I open my eyes, sure enough my hand is hovering over my computer mouse and I’m on a discount travel site. About to spend money I don’t have on a trip that I don’t have time to take.

Never missing a beat, the fashion industry created the lovely season called “Resort” nestled between F/W and S/S to match the annual bout of wanderlust caught by the fashionable all across the globe.

Just in time, Intermix has released their resort collection, divided into four subcategories: Hot Brights, Black & White, Americana & Missoni Chic. The black and white collection being my favourite, which includes a pair of white Rag&Bone tuxedo pants made exclusively for Intermix! Put away any thoughts of fanny packs and Hawaiian shirts, these beautiful creations are what we’re meant to wear while on holiday.

Check out the website to shop the full looks, or better yet, pop into their newly opened boutique at 130 Bloor.St W, Toronto. Happy travels!
