I have a confession to make – I’m a hoarder when it comes to vacation photos. There’s something in me that makes it difficult to connect my Canon SLR or my little Canon Point and Shoot Elph and upload my abundance of photos that I can be seen taking. Some of them never see the light of Facebook (though that could be a very good thing – what happens in Vegas or anywhere else really sometimes needs to stay there), and many of them end up in my massive developing cycles (true story – last Christmas I developed over 800 photos).
What causes this fear of sharing? More like a need for ease of uploading. Thankfully, a little Windows Live SkyDrive is readily willing to shimmy into my photo-sharing ineptitude and calm those woes.
The Upload
I recently went on a trip to San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. Then I went to Cuba. I brought two cameras, and a cell phone camera accompanied me for some impromptu photos for sharing online. That part was easy (the low-res ones seem to like to travel amidst all of my devices). But what’s trickier is when I have three devices to source in three different ways (some plug some have cards that easily slide into my Mac, and some…are a bit more helpless).
Sky Drive is your first stop for eliminating your group photo-sharing issues, taking a trip down memory lane (I can’t believe some of the photos that are in there are in there – lucky for you, I’m sharing them), and living in the light, fluffy cloud (storing plenty of your files online). It’s a private, secure, online filing cabinet that boasts plenty of storage space (5.0 gb, so much space it makes me feel pretty guilty about not consuming more). You decide who you want to grant access, and what they have access to (golden!)

Photo Sharing
In need of sharing photos after your trip? Connect your camera and upload your high resolution photos hassle free (no more USB key sharing, when you can sift through albums upon albums from the comfort of your own laptop). The key icing on the album cake? Easy sharing through social networks (slap on the wrist if you’re like me and don’t often post updated photos to your Facebook album – yikes). The beauty of it all? You can keep your photos tag-free (that is, if you’re not interested in sharing what happened in Vegas on your social networks). Password protecting your photo albums is a free reign option – it’s up to you to control who lays eyes on your precious pictures. In desperate need of sharing? You can photo-share via Hotmail emails, sending hundreds of photos with zero attachments (and for my next trick…).
Other Feats
Windows Live offers the goods when it comes to multimedia editing – photo editing (what!), video sharing, movie makers, and access from anywhere. SkyDrive is all smiles – it makes life easier and it creates an easy-to-use portal for your friends and family (or other inner circles) to share all of your rich media goods.
The Verdict?
I’m in the cloud now.
